Other Essential Red Baron Files
The XBaron package consists of a patch and support programs for use with
Dynamix' Red Baron w/Mission Builder. XBaron provides several extensions
which will improve and enhance the performance of Red Baron, especially on
486/33 and faster computers.
The major features of XBaron are:
- A Frame Rate Limiter in the simulation that limits maximum frame
rate to a value that allows Red Baron to run at optimum performance.
- A Frame Rate Limiter in the VCR that regulates playback time so
it is the same as the record time.
- Additional keyboard functions available in the VCR for adjusting
tape speed during playback.
- Improved joystick routines with provision for adjustable response
curves and adjustable dead zone settings.
- Additional joystick button functions as well as the capability to
reassign individual functions to any available button.
- Built-in support for the Thrustmaster FCS/PFCS hat switch for
controlling cockpit views.
- Built-in support for proportional analog throttle to replace the
'ratchet' analog throttle that RB provides.
- Optional support for proportional analog rudder to replace the
'off-on' analog rudder that RB provides.
- Optional support for a partial rudder-aileron linkage that adds
a little roll whenever the pedals are depressed.
MBPTCH.ZIP---Mission Builder Patch by 'Samurai' and 'Jaybird'
Integrates Red Baron Mission Builder Aircraft and Aces into Career Mode.
Time constraints in the release of Red Baron Mission Builder
prevented Dynamix from integrating the new aircraft and new aces
into Career Mode. The files included in this ZIP add these new
aircraft and aces to Red Baron campaigns. Each aircraft file set
modifies one or both of the Mission Builder squadron tables. Each
ace file set modifies the Mission Builder ace table and possibly
one or both of the squadron tables. This approach allows players
to tailor the changes to their personal preferences. Some of these
changes are not historically accurate. We feel that some historical
inaccuracy is a small price to pay for the ability to fly with and
against the new aces and new aircraft while in a campaign.
ACEFIX.ZIP---Ace Rank Patch by Bill Ciciora
A historical fix for Red Baron Mission Builder. Research of the highest rank
each ace attained in the War showed that the ace table included in the
Mission Builder has some errors. ACEFIX will set new promotion dates for
certain aces. The dates are not necessarily historically correct for the
new aces, but coincide with command assignments. It is likely that the new
aces would have received their promotions just before taking command of a new or larger unit.
RBPERS.ZIP---Ace's Aircraft Patch by Graeme von Cree
Richthofen: The Famous Aces screen shows 3 of Richthofen's personal planes: the
Albatros D-III, the Albatros D-Va, and the Fokker Dr-1. However, Richthofen
never flies the Albatros D-Va during the Campaign Game.
So what's the Albatros D-V doing there if he never flies it?
This patch changes Richthofen's personal plane from an Albatros D-III
to an Albatros D-Va in the months of June and September 1917.
McCudden: In the Campaign Game, McCudden flies with #56 Squadron from 7/17 to 2/18.
We know that he flew earlier yet he doesn't appear in the Campaign Game
during this period. The reason is Dynamix's reluctance to deliberately bend history. During
his DH-2 days McCudden flew with #29 Squadron, and since #29 Squadron doesn't
appear in the game, neither does this period of McCudden's career. This
patch adds him to #24 Squadron until Feburary 1917.
RICHTH.ZIP---Ace's Aircraft Patch by Graeme von Cree
This patch adds more planes flown by Manfred von Richthofen.
Richthofen flew a Halberstadt during January 1917 when his Albatros was
damaged, and used a Pfalz in early 1918 when numerous airframe failures
temporarily grounded the Fokker Dr-1's. This patch allows him to fly
both of these aircraft at the appropriate time in the campaign game.

BRISMB.ZIP---Bristol F.2B Patch by 'Samurai' and 'Jaybird'
This patch assigns the Bristol F.2B as the standard recce aircraft to
Veteran and Regular RFC pilots in certain months in 1917 and 1918.
This is an aircraft that the player would never see unless flying
a special hacked mission. For some reason Dynamix neglected to include
this aircraft in any of the campaign missions in either RB or RBMB.
Red Baron Mission Files
CUSNDX.ZIP---Index of Custom Missions by Graeme Cree
A listing of all custom Red Baron missions uploaded to Compuserve(tm)
through April of 1995. Missions are grouped into historical and
fictional categories. The description, type, location, date and aircraft
of each mission is also listed. An excellent guide to the Red Baron
missions.
